Vikings Visit Drumraney N.S.!
On Friday 20th May archaeologist and Viking studies expert Derek Gallagher visited Drumraney NS. The children learned a lot about what the life of a Viking warrior was like including what weapons they used and what they wore. The children got to examine replicas of shields, swords and arrows. They also got to try on costumes and many looked quite ferocious as Viking warriors! Viking ladies wore colourful clothes and decorative jewellery. The colours for dying the clothes were extracted from vegetables such as onion skins! The more colourful your clothes and elaborate your jewellery the wealthier you were. Children also got to try writing with a quill and realised what a difficult and laborious task writing was at the time for the monks. Our school band got to play quite unusual instruments on the day! Have a look at pictures from the day.
